This Week in Review!

Here is my thoughts on everything I watched this week, some short, some long, and some spoilers so be aware. What do you think on them all?

THE VAMPIRE DIARIESHow I Met Your Mother: Barney and Robin have been a highlight of all the episodes so far this season which has overall being pretty good. This week was episodes was one of the best of the year even though it marked the end of Barney and Robin. Alan Thicke was great in a fun cameo too.

Lie to Me: Can I just want to say I want Alicia Coppola on a show now. I loved her in Jericho and she was great as Agent Reynolds pal in this week Reynolds-centric outing. I have seen next week’s very much relevant episode on Black Friday and it is one of the best of the show.

So You Think You Can Dance: When the season started and they had that fantastic showcase show I thought this year would be outstanding, so far this year, so not. Nobody is wowing me except for maybe Jakob who is just so fun and brilliant. I still love Mollee and Nathan even though the performance was cringe-worthy.

V: V is my favorite new show this year. It is so epic in its feel and just fun to watch. Elizabeth Mitchell and Joel Gretsch are a perfect pair, and it was great to see Rekha Sharma (Battlestar Galactica) as a FBI friend of Erica or is she. Plus any show with Alan Tudyk is a win in my book. The one area the show lacks though is in the teenagers, better dialogue and story is needed or the ratings could just go down even further.

Melrose Place: Heather Locklear we need you know. Just a million viewers is pathetic for what is a pretty fun soapy drama, next week is the week. Amanda is back and will it help, I hope so.

The Good Wife: I would watch The Good Wife just for the judges alone who have all been great in the series and next week Peter Riegert comes to the panel, love him. This week presented a nice dilemma with a lawyer/non lawyer for Alicia and the story with the son keeps me interested in her personal life.

New Adventures of Old Christine: Julia Louis-Dreyfus is funny. Really funny. This cast is really fun which it turn makes me laugh so much.

Top Chef: She is gone and I am a little sad. Robin who should have been voted off in Week 1 finally had to pack her knives and somehow I don’t think the show will be as great just because of not as much drama. However, Nigella Lawson was the perfect judge. Opinionated, funny, and adorable, I wouldn’t mind her being on each week.

FlashForward: Like I have said before the show is not bad, the story is interesting and gets better when Rocky Jay shows up but the writing is not good, and that combined with the TERRIBLE acting of Joe Finnes overshadows any good performances by Christine Woods or John Cho. The show needs to get better soon with more episodes like last week’s fantastic “The Gift.”

Survivor: Best season EVER? With episodes like the last two with brilliant blindsides, I think so. Russell is one of the best contestants ever. Love this show.

Parks and Recreation: I love this show too. By far the funniest show on NBC and the second best comedy on air behind a certain ABC comedy. The supporting cast is unstoppable.

Private Practice: Last night’s episode was off the hook. I cried and was engrossed by the emotion and story in this medical drama. Everything was perfect except for the unnecessary last scene, brought me out of it just a little.

Fringe: This week, pretty good. Next week, fantastically freaky.

The Vampire Diaries: So this show is surprising me. As I watched it this summer, I hated it. Found it so cliched and stupid, now I look forward to it each week. This week was strong once again but the episode left me hanging and confused. First, Alaric is obviously a vampire of something but when the episode ended with Jenna’s old boyfriend and supposedly dead Logan, my first thought was that somehow Alaric changed his body to his. The reason I came to this conclusion was that he said something along the lines of “Will you let me in,” and when Alaric left the house he said something like “You will let me in some other time.” Just the way the dialogues intertwined made me think they were one in the same. Crazy or no?

First Look: Glee has ‘Wheels’

Glee has been off the air for two weeks now, have you missed it? Well if you have don’t have to worry now, its back and packs a punch tonight….

110GLEE_Sc01_1257What FOX Says about “Wheels”:

When Artie’s chances of traveling with the group to Regionals are in question, Will challenges the kids to step out of their comfort zones and experience life from a different point of view. Meanwhile, the Glee Club hosts its first “diva-off” between Kurt and Rachel, and Sue reveals a softer side in the all-new “Wheels” episode of GLEE airing Wednesday, Nov. 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GLE-109) (TV-PG D, L)

110GLEE_Sc01_1008Is Glee a good show? Absolutely, but what makes it a good show? Tonight’s episode showcases what I love about the show so much. The heart and the hardships and the perils of high school. The episode showcases the Glee Club’s problems with Artie as they prepare for sectionals, and it lets Kevin McHale (Artie) show what he has along with the always seen but seldom heard until now Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), who is so fun on screen.

The episode isn’t without the music including a fantastic duet of a song I love by Chris Colfer (right) and Lea Michelle (Rachel), and a energetic group number that reminds me of the fun the group had with Somebody to Love awhile back.

But like I said, the show has great heart with tonight being the pinnacle of that. Somehow even with the ridiculous plot lines, and strange characters, the show manages to grab you, make you smile, and forget everything. That makes Glee so special, plus Jane Lynch! Expect some revelations that might make you tear up for Sue and as always….

Glee airs tonight after the first results show of You Think You Can Dance at 9/8c on FOX!

ABC picks up, cancels, and scraps on Monday Evening

Some late ABC news coming out tonight:

  • ABC has picked up 5 more episodes of the decently performing The Forgotten airing on Tuesdays at 10/9c starring Christian Slater, according to TheWrap.
  • ABC will not order anymore episodes of the meagerly performing Eastwick that has been airing at Wednesdays at 10/9c from HitFix. It was a fun little show but just not that well written or acted. ABC will air the 13 episodes all ready produced.
  • ABC has gotten rid of its plan to air Let’s Dance according to TheWrap. The show which would have had celebrities acting out famous routines and was to be hosted by Kathy Griffin, was scheduled to start November 23rd after Dancing with the Stars. New reality show Find My Family will air in its place. The show is being scrapped due to the difficulty casting celebrities.

Reactions anyone? I am hearing a full ABC schedule announcement should happen this week with a Lost premiere date and time!

Updated Breaking News: The CW’s Best Show has a date!

lifeunexpected2

Michael Courtney / The CW ©2009

The CW is having a not so great fall except for the great ratings, and suprisingly great show The Vampire Diaries, and no thanks to the terrible ratings of Melrose Place (Please Heather Locklear bring in viewers to this soapy drama!), but come January 18th, it will have one creative force to reckon with.

Life Unexpected, a drama about Lux (Brittany Roberston), a orphane looking to get emancipated but gets rolled in to her biological parents (Kristoffer Polaha and Shiri Appleby), will bow on Monday, January 18th according to TheTVShowGirl with an unknown timeslot to be announced soon.

I am hoping for it to air after One Tree Hill which I think will be the most compatiple show with Gossip Girl moving to Wednesdays after America’s Next Top Model.

UPDATE: TheWrap is reporting that LUX will “preview” on Mondays at 9/8c for a couple of weeks beginning on the 18th while Gossip Girl takes a break but will move to a permanent timeslot later which unknown and could end up being on Mondays.

I am so glad The CW has the same amount of confidence in this show as I do!

Fall TV 2009: ABC’s V

I posted this review last month but felt it was necessary to show you again because I really would love for you to tune into this how. V rocks my world, and it should rock yours to. (Also, I saw a finished pilot so this review is tweaked some.)117297_WATER_01r1_preABC Says:

“V” is a re-imagining of the 1980’s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature: devotion.

While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers a secret hidden beneath the skin of every V – a secret that may threaten the lives of everyone close to her. Yet for her teenage son, Tyler (Logan Huffman), the V’s are his ticket to something big and hopeful — a new chance for mankind to unite in common goals. To Chad Decker (Scott Wolf), a career-hungry news anchor, his exclusive interview with Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V’s, is crucial to his dominating the airwaves. Also unsure about the Visitors is Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a priest questioning his faith in the wake of the Visitors’ arrival. Seeking answers outside the church, Father Jack discovers there are other dissidents who believe the Visitors are not who they say they are, including Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut), who is faced with his own life-altering decision when the V’s show up. Never has there been more at stake — it truly is the dawning of a new day.

116242_1985_preThe Good: This to me is the best new show of the fall. It is a spectacular story of visitors and how we deal with them. The acting, the writing, the look are all perfect. You could not get any better than this cast. Come on, Morena Baccarin as Anna is fantastic, and mark my words she will breakout. Her demeanor and presence as the Visitors leader is remarkable. Elizabeth Mitchell (my favorite actress in the world) is again strong especially when she has something to work for like her son. Erica is a powerful women and that is how we like them. The rest of the cast including Joel Gretsch who returns to the sci-fi genre, Morris Chestnut, and little Scott Wolf are all top notch. But what really sets the show apart is the visual aspect and “epic” like feel to the events. It is like a movie to watch the pilot, the special effects are breathtaking with vast shots of giant ships over the world. V rocks my world in every possible way, and it will rock your world too! (More on V in the coming months!)

The pilot you will see tonight had some new scenes added that really spice up the hour. You get more sci-fi and Visitor’s technology that they use. Also, in the original pilot, Chad (Scott Wolf) was sold to be a little bit of snob and one that will do anything, now the character is much kinder and works well with the intensity of the show.

The Not So Good: Are you kidding me? Nothing to think of.

V premieres tomorrow at 8/7c on ABC! “They come in Peace, Always!”

Fall TV 2009: My Review of USA’s White Collar

Fall cable premieres are pretty much coming to a close with a brand new characters do the “character” driven USA lineup, but are they interesting…NUP_135879_1525

What USA Says:

WHITE COLLAR is about the most unlikely of partnerships between a con artist and an FBI agent. The story unfolds after charming criminal mastermind Neal Caffrey (Bomer) is caught by his nemesis, G-Man extraordinaire Peter Burke (DeKay). After escaping from a maximum-security prison to find his long-lost love, Neal is nabbed by Peter once again. Rather than returning to jail for this daring getaway, Neal suggests an alternate plan – providing his expertise to assist the Feds in putting away infamous and elusive criminals in return for his freedom. Thiessen plays Peter’s wife, Elizabeth, an intelligent, high-status event planner with a certain intuition of her own. Garson plays Mozzie, a friend of Caffrey’s with a strong distrust of the Feds and an unyielding belief in conspiracy theories. Diahann Carroll (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Dynasty”) guest stars in the pilot and will star as a dynamic recurring character.

WHITE COLLAR, starring Matt Bomer (“Chuck,” “Tru Calling”), Tim DeKay (“Tell Me You Love Me,” “Carnivle”), Tiffani Thiessen (“What About Brian,” “Fastlane”) and Willie Garson (“Sex and the City,” “John from Cincinnati”). On Friday, October 23 at 10/9c, WHITE COLLAR will debut with a special 90-minute episode followed by 13 one-hour episodes. The announcement was made by Jeff Wachtel, president, original programming, USA Network and co-head, original content, Universal Cable Productions.

NUP_135932_0743The Good: White Collar works for a couple reasons. First of all its leading men in Matt Bomer as the criminal Neal Caffrey and Tim DeKay as Agent Burke. The play of each other so well in the first two episodes that I saw that you just want they to be on your screen for more and more time. Second is the way the production takes advantage of its background in New York City. The show feels big, feels important thanks to its sweeping views especially when a party in the second episode takes place in a great local. Thirdly, for the hilarious Willie Garson who gives a nice comic edge to the show in his ditzy but helpful Mozzie.

White Collar also has some impressive recurring players first in Diahann Carroll as the nice lady Neal befriends so he can live in a nice place and veteran actor James Rebhorn who plays a great old time FBI boss to the leads.

The Not So Good: The only thing that threw me for a loop is why the wonderful Marsha Thomason (Lost) who plays Tim Dekay right hand agent and has a scandlous personal life in the pilot is not mentioned in anything for the show or in the second epsiode where she is semmingly replaced by the still wonderful Natalie Morales. Not a big misstep but one worth mentioned. White Collar is the perfect show to join the likes of Monk, Psych, Royal Pains, and Burn Notice in USA’s run of great dramas. This is one you should be watching.

White Collar airs after the return of Sharona on the final season of Monk at 10/9c tonight on USA Network!

Reminder: Great Wars Arrive in ‘Top Chef’

0000058808_20090715134217Tonight marks one of my favorite days of the years, yes an all new Modern Family and Glee plus a hilarious The Middle, and the reveal of a great Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance, but above all that is Top Chef is bringing out the big guns. Restaurant Wars! The yearly tradition is always a action packed challenge that tests the chefs like nothing else and this season is no different.

Season Six is already my favorite season of the show to date and this battle is so intense. The episode starts with one of the best quickfires ever where the contestants have to team up with a twist, and create a very unique dish for the jugde this round Rick Moonen recently from Top Chef: Masters. Then the battles begin as the groups create two resteraunts sans the decor in Las Vegas’s RM Seafood. The challenge creates some fun food and some very tense situation between some fan favorites.

Restaurant Wars rocks each year but even more this year with the combination of drama, great food, fun people, and intriguing judge’s comments ending in a very unexpected departure.

Top Chef airs an extended episode on 10/9c on Bravo!

Weekend Viewing: Monk, Psych, Storm Chasers, and Brothers & Sisters

Fine TV continues and ends through the weekend, including what hopefully will be a good MLB postseason (go Angels and Dodgers), but her is some scripte fare to watch out for….

NUP_133847_0522-550x365

Monk – 9/8c Friday on USA: It is hard to believe that in just a month and a half, Mr. Monk will close his final case. Monk has and always will hold a special place in my hear, and it hurts me to know that the mystery of Trudy will be solved in a good way. Wow, the truth about Trudy, what could it be? It is the beginning of the end tonight with an episode entitled “Happy Birthday, Mr. Monk” which features new recurring guest star Virginia Madsen. Get ready for next week though when SHARONA IS BACK!

Stargate Universie – 9/8c Friday on Syfy: Did you check out the new Stargate series? It is a fine space drama and tonight lack of power goes noticed in a episode called “Darkness.”

117447_8684_pre

Psych – 10/9c Friday on USA (Fall Finale): To make room for USA’s new great character drama White Collar that premieres next week, Psych is taking a little breather until January. The fall finale is action packed and surrounds Jules, Gus, Spencer, and Lanchester searching for a missing and shot Shawn. Psych is a show that does an awesome job in mixing comedy and drama and that is on display here. Plus, for all of your Jules/Shawn shippers, expect some revealing stuff tonight.

Storm Chasers – 10/9c Sunday on Discovery: I am a fan of Discovery Channel. I love there action packed programming but the problem is I never make anything appointment TV except for this fall’s great The Colony. That might change now with the premiere of Storm Chasers. I have seen the first two episodes and it is such an adrenaline rush to watch these guys who are so fun battle it out. Make sure to put this on the DVR, because it is well worth it.

Brothers & Sisters – 10/9c Sunday on ABC: To finish your weekend off in a dramatic fashion is a show that has revatilived what is is. Brothers and Sisters marks the return of Sarah (Rachel Griffiths was on maternity leave) with a more funny and romantic stories than the past episodes. Last week was phenomenal with surperb acting tongether by Rob Lowe and Sally Field, but another pair shines tonight as Gilles Marni joins the cast as someone Sarah met in France. The episode does not shy away from Kitty’s treatment as she goes into her first session, but also focuses on Sarah’s escapades (even the shows titles are changed to the french, Frères et Soeurs).

Also in the hour is Rebecca, Holly, and Nora searching for the perfect wedding venue which will take place between her and Justin on December 6th, so mark your calendars for the return of Marion Ross as Justin’s granny and Tommy and Julia for the ceremony.
