What I Will Be Watching – Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

18 Jan

The big return week of more TV continues….

White Collar – 10/9c on USA

Tim DeKay. Matt Bomer. Back on television tonight, after a too-long hiatus in their USA crime drama/comedy White Collar. If you are not familiar with this fantastic duo, they play a team of FBI agent-criminal mastermind that together take town criminals in NYC. I have seen the first two episodes of the new batch of episodes which take a deep look at Neal’s (Bomer) past with more exposition on the music box not to mention Mozzie’s apparent kill shot in the finale. Look for Hilarie Burton to return as Sara Ellis in the premiere in a fantastic guest spot as well as a all flashback episode, next week. The show is on top form, blending humor, with the drama in the city, leading to a perfect mix of good-looking, emotional characters. A must-see.

Life Unexpected – 8/7c on CW

As we say hello again to another series, we say hello and good-bye to another. Life Unexpected, the too-original, too-wholesome, too-emotional, too-real drama on The CW airs its two-hour finale tonight after being canned by the network for not being on-brand (sexpots galore). It is a shame, as LUX taught us so many great things and made us weep along the way. Let’s hope we get satisfactory ending to Lux, Cate, Baze, and Ryan.

V – 9/8c on ABC

In this episode of the dying sci-fi drama, the action starts the very first second where Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) throws some punches when she learns that her her partner is a Visitor, and things just get interesting from there.

No Ordinary Family – 8/7c on ABC

Lost FTW, and Rebecca Mader (Charlotte) was wonderful in her introduction as VP of Human Resources Maddox on the growing ABC family drama. She continues her role as Katie and Steph feel something is up and pursue.

Live to Dance – 8/7 on CBS

Paula Abdul is back and will soon be competing against her former home on FOX. However tonight, her new dance competition series which allows any type of dance imaginable, gets a head start on Idol, with auditions from the nationwide search. Not to much has been released on the new competition but I for one will be tuning in to see what crazy stuff she does on CBS!

No Ordinary Family – 8/7c on ABC

I doubt you are watching No Ordinary Family as the ratings don’t reflect it but it is one new show this year worth checking up on, the cast has gelled, the show has found its tone and beat, and the stories are fun and exciting. Tonight, the family of superheroes are greeted by Ricky Schroder and Annie Wersching (24), who Jim saves and becomes fast friends, with a motive? Next week, Rebecca Mader (Lost) joins the cast as a recurring player at Stephanie’s work.

Southland – 10/9c on TNT

This is a COP SHOW. This is the way you do it. Gritty, real, confrontational, not spiced up, not dull downed. Southland returns for an unexpected season 3, the first full produced by TNT. I have seen the premiere which is just a prime example of what the show can do with a group of LA cops from detectives to patrollers and the day-to-day lives and bureaucracy they go through. Make sure to tune in because this is what Law and Order: LA should have been.

Also back tonight is the last 4 episodes of Parenthood on Tuesday nights (10/9c, NBC), it moves to Mondays in March, and ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7 (10/9c)

The Survivors: My Tuesday Night Schedule

16 Nov

I can continue my look at what survived the fall on my DVR, with Tuesday nights, which will only get busier with American Idol (why do I still watch?) in the spring but for know, it is at a tolerable level.

At 8/7c, Glee is that social hit that nobody can stop and I am just riding it till it crashes. I don’t care for Glee, at all, but it is too big to give up and every once and while they deliver in the emotion and in the lyrics. However, ABC is where the real quality is at, with freshman drama No Ordinary Family, which has developed into a nice family show, that is able to relate to almost everyone in a fun and inviting way. Plus, Autumn Reeser kills me every time. So sweet.

At 9/8c, Life Unexpected is saying goodbye (unofficially) and while the sophomore season has not lived up to its promise in season 1, creator Liz Tigelaar and cast/crew are still one smiley bunch and deliver in the soul week in and week out, while Raising Hope on FOX just makes me laugh. Hands down this season’s Modern Family, Hope is a redneck comedy I can enjoy and Martha Plimpton slays me. I am also still watching the DOA Running Wilde purely for the Keri Russell factor. I know I wanted you to return to TV, but don’t make this failure the reason to go back into hiding.

At 10/9c, The Good Wife reins supreme above all other Tuesday shows as a just suburb drama. If you are not watching, what are you even doing watching television. It is THAT GOOD. Over at NBC, Parenthood and the Braverman family still has my back, and on ABC, Detroit 1-8-7 is just there, nothing really against it, nothing really to support it.

What are you checking out on Tuesday nights? Are you watching the Fashion Show on Bravo, or sticking are you sticking with The Biggest Loser on NBC. Speak up!
